Question 2002 S430 windshield

I was driving today with the defrost on and heard a pop pulled over and saw a crack and smoke coming from my windshield it seems to have melted or got very hot on the passenger side just below the wiper left a nasty quarter size hole and a crack running up my windshield any ideas?

I beleive there are a couple of heating elements in the windshield near there that are designed to prevent the blades from freezing. It sounds like the element went viral and popped the windshield. I've never heard of this before.

windshield damage is usually included in your insurance. (the S600 has an expensive one).

Agree with Kraut56, call you insurance company and ask them if you have full glass coverage.

Insurance companies usually do not cover original MB glasses, just a somewhat cheaper aftermarket glass. If you want OEM you have to pay the difference, itself several hundred dollars.
Also, it looks important to get to the end of this problem, if the origin is a heater malfunction. Do not let your new glass crack next week. A good auto glass shop can be the best source of information what is to be fixed.

You may simply want to disconnect the heating function , especially if you're not in a snowy climate
