2000 S430 DEAD KEY AFTER GETTING WET

Hello, I have an interesting issue with my 2000 S430. I was driving the car in the rain and I ran through a large puddle causing me to hydroplane then correct. As I exited off the highway and pulled up to the stop sign I noticed a "display defective" error message and my shift position display was off. As I went to pull away from the stop, my automatic transmission felt like I was driving a standard and taking off in 3rd gear, slowly gaining the rpms to feel as it was in the right gear, I assumed something electrical was wet and would dry off. I made an incorrect turn so I started to turn the car around and when I shifted up into reverse, nothing. Just like the trans was gone. Shift back into drive, same thing. So, thinking that if I restart the car that I might reset the comp, I put it in park and turned off the car. When I went to turn it back on, everything powered up with still the display error and the key was dead to the start. I tried to move the shifter from park and it felt stuck but I played with it enough to eventually get it to go into neutral so I could move the car. I came to this forum and read about other issues similar to this and tried the gauntlet of tests and here are a few.I hooked up a scanner to the car and had no problem codes. I did the brake pedal test and it was fine, I lifted the rear carpet to see if there was water to find a dry car. I pulled the starter, checked the fuses and relays and I'm still stumped. Can anyone tell me what is wrong or give me an idea besides selling the car what I should do? I appreciate in advance any help I can get.

Also I left out the fact that when turning key into start position, everything else is working and "display defective" light is off but shift position display is still dead. There has to be some fix to this issue. Please any help is better than no help.

Mercedes
Your transmission electronics probably got wet driving through the water

If you have comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance it covers water damage , file a claim

oh really? I was wondering if I had a short in the trans that went out when shorted that electronically it shorted at a spot where tranny still reads it in 3rd gear..
