$1,000.00 Brake Job

My dealership is asking $1,000 to change front and rear brake pads and front rotors on my S500. I think this is high especially given that I don't feel that the rotors need to be changed. I took the car to the shop as soon as the warning light came on. I didn't even notice any decrease in braking performance. This is the first time I am getting a brake job done on this car. It has 40k miles. Is the dealership just ripping me off?

Wow that's alot! I'm at 50k miles and I'm only just beginning to hear a slight squeek when I hit the brakes. And that's only if it's an abrupt stop. Try going to www.parts.com and see what they want for the parts. Then shop around local shops to get quotes on installation. Good luck.

PS I dont think 1000 is reasonable whatsoever.

Damn....$1000!?! Most I've ever paid for brakes were ~$700 for our audi for front and rear pads, rotors, rear caliper. And those were in NEED...i mean they were all rusted and *****.

If your brakes are not squeeling, braking is still pretty good...may want to bring it to another place for a second opinion. You mentioned a light came on...the brake pad light like this: (O) yellow colored?

BTW, the dealers always try and tell u that the brakes need replacement. Our last service on our ML was at 50k miles, and was told that it needed front pads cuz they were pretty much worn down. Wants $700 for the job. Was advised that it would be good for about another 1500 miles on them...3k MAX. Well, it's 9000 miles later at 59k now and still brakes fine, no brake pad warning light has come on at all! :x
