I've recently been having problems with my 2000 S430 windshield wipers. They've been operating intermittently, a problem that seemed to worsen over a week or so. If they were inoperable, I would also get a BAS, Break Assist Warning and ESP, Electric stabilizer system warning. My headlight (If in the auto position) were flickering or going on and off completely. Headlights in the FULL on position worked ok.
Today I removed the fuse to the wiper motor and all other indications/symptoms went away. I'm assuming the wiper motor was causing a draw on the other systems.... I have a replacement motor on the way so I'll update once I have it replaced.

Now, I've replaced the wiper motor. reinstalled the fuse and the connector. Before I reinstalled the cowling and wipers I tested. SAME SYMPTOMS. Break Assist Warning and ESP Warning. I left the fuse in and disconnected at the wiper motor connector. Symptoms go away. So, Jack88 is probably right. A short somewhere....... Uugh!

Follow the wiring from the motor, I'll bet where it gets most exposed to heat is where you'll find the insulation has broken down. Just a guess, anyhow.
