Mercedes Phone

I have a motorola timeport phone that came with my 2002 S-430. THe phone quality is getting worse and when you take the phone out of the car to use it in a park or what not it, it doesnt even work. First is it covered by Mercedes and second is it possible to get the newest V60 for my car? And if so since I am using AT&T can I buy a V60 from them or would I have to thru Mercedes? Thanks

I'm not sure how they handle the handset under warranty, typically since it is a Mercedes product it should be covered under the 4/50k warranty since this is a "reception/hardware" issue.

The V60 can be fitted to your car, all that you would need is the updated cradle, the telephone itself and depending on the model number- PSE electronic "brain" in the trunk. Expect this to run you over $1000, the phone alone lists for $600.

And yes, you have to buy the Mercedes Benz branded phone from them. The AT&T version will not work, it has different software in it and it will not talk to the car.

You could always try Ebay for a V60 handset, there are a few different models. For AT&T, the V60 and the updated V60i. Of course you would have no warranty for any products you buy from Ebay.

With the buyout of AT&T by Cingular I would be hesitant to invest a lot of money into this right now because the AT&T phones that mercedes offers aren't GSM and by the looks of it Cingular is looking to move everyone to GSM.

I upgraded my Startac to a V60s in my 2000 E320 and it's great.

I would call the dealer and see if they can replace the handset for "poor reception", some people have been successful in being upgraded to the V60 under warranty since the Timeport is no longer manufactured.

I talked my advisor at Mercedes and he said just come by and drop off the phone. He would have the tech take a look at it. If it needs to be services they will send it out otherwise just replace the phone.
