S600 trunk opening and closing malfunction...
I have a 2003 S600 that I have only been able to open with the metal key since I purchased it.
I attempted to take off the latch mechanism and epoxy the seals but that didn't work. When I hit the "open" button, I hear a clunk like a solenoid opening but nothing else happens. Occasionally the hydraulic pump near the battery will groan but that's it. I do not hear any air noises at all from the PSE pump or the trunk latch. The doors all soft close, and all seat massagers work. I have attempted to reset the PSE pump to no avail.
I also am unable to close the trunk with the hydraulic pump. It just makes noise. There is fluid in the reservoir. Do the PSE pump/latch and hydraulic pump work in unison? Or is there a different issue here.
Please help.

Does anyone also know how the hydraulic pump for closing the trunk works? How does it actually get the drunk closed?

The actuator is for lock/unlock.
The hydraulic pump is for raising/lowering the lid.
The strut is for holding the lid from gravity.
If you have to use the mechanical key then start with the actuator. Good luck!

Thank you for not answering any of my questions, but just repeating what components encompass the trunk. I did start with the actuator to no avail

Also don't look at the hydraulic pump when you have to use the mechanical key. That's what I am trying to tell you.
I'm sorry for not able to provide any help to you.

I was just wondering if something else was wrong since I have not heard any air noises from the trunk latch.

You should check to make sure that your air pump hose at the trunk lock is connected. Does the trunk open with the door button?
If none of the above works it all leads back to your actuator as DrDoe stated.

I don't believe so. The latch looks the same as my 2000 S500 (somewhat of a parts car)

The trunk on a s600 will have the power raise/lower
It will have a hydraulic pump in the side of the trunk

A lesser car might not have it , the power raise/lower is an option
You can tell the difference by whether the trunk lid uses springs or gas struts . Cars with springs don't have the power raise /lower . Lids with gas struts have the power raise/lowering lid
It will have a hydraulic pump in the side of the trunk

Yes, thank you. That much I do know. However I do not know the function of the hydraulic pump other than to close the trunk. I don't know what force it acts upon to actually pull it closed? Does it pull down on those wires on the right-hand side, that seems like the only way but a bad design.
I'm still unable to open or close my trunk at all, and have to use the metal key. I'm trying to work my way through the PSE pump/system.

See that long horizontal hydraulic ram at the top of my picture ? That is where the hydraulic fluid acts on the ram to physically raise and lower the lid. It's all hidden behind the panels and you can't see it
It's not the wiring you can see going to the lid
That's why its extremely stiff/hard to manually open and close the lid , of a powered lid car
You can even bend or damage the lid

There we go! Now I know. I always thought that it pulled on the electrical wiring and even I knew that seemed like a terrible design flaw! Haha!
Now, onto my stupid latch mechanism. Air bladder is completely sealed but still not functioning and I must use the metal key.
