2003 S430 Trunk Issues - "hockey puck" repair gone bad

My trunk does not open with the truck release button on the door, or the trunk release button on my key fob. When I hit those buttons I can hear air escaping from the trunk latch area. So it's just a matter of super-gluing and taping the "hockey puck" in the trunk latch, right? Well, it wasn't so simple... I ran into 2 problems.

1. When I got the latch disassembled from the trunk, I tried the trunk release button again, and I noticed that the air is shooting out NOT from the hockey puck but from a crack in the air system before it gets to the hockey puck (shown with red arrow in photo) Would it be sufficient to fill this crack with super glue to fix the problem, or am I going to cause a different issue if I do that?

Site of my air leak in the (overly complicated) truck latch mechanism

The second issue is that while the hockey puck seems air-tight currently, it looks like it'll fail at any moment. It's already bulging slightly and the little plastic tabs are starting to break off. The problem here is that I can't get the darn thing off the rest of the latch mechanism. Nobody else mentions this problem when they talk about the hockey puck fix, so maybe I'm just lucky (or not mechanically inclined). How do you get it off the rest of the latch mechanism? It seems like you just pinch both of the tabs (arrowed in photo), but to do that it seems like you'd need 4 hands and 2 tools that I don't have. What are you all using for that? No needle-nose pliers of mine will even fit in those slots.

You can see the mangling as a result of my failed attempts to get the left one off. I can't imagine getting both at once.

Yes, there is a ball bearing in there. That's exactly why I was worried about putting super-glue or epoxy in there. I don't know what effect of locking that ball bearing in place would be. But I guess I can't make it any worse!
