S500 - Muffler delete? Or other cheap way to "growl"

Hi all.
Im looking for a relatively cheap way to bring a bit of bass and roar, because stock exhaust is very quiet (quieter than my friend 1.8 BMW, LMAO). I dont want to wake my neighbours, just little louder and more growling, bass. I should delete muffler or straight pipe this? What do you think? Thanks in advance

I removed the 2nd set of cats. Zero difference in sound. If I remember correctly there are a total of 4 cats, two silencers and two mufflers. To get noise you are going to need to make a lot of changes.

Take out the resonators. If you want it louder, install electric exhaust cut outs. Did this to my CLS55AMG. I also own a S55AMG, but I kept the exhaust stock on it. On the CLS, I run it full time with exhaust dumps just before the mufflers. $700 for exhaust, $100 to straight pipe the resonators.

If you want cheap just delete both the mufflers and resonators (everything behind the cat) and run straight pipes

Note The turbo cars are quiet even with straight pipe , the turbo And 4 cats mask most of the sound . Shoofnyc is building a v12 with two of the cats removed , all mufflers and resonators removed and it's still quiet

I think a resonator delete and an aftermarket muffler would give you a decent growl without being obnoxious. Here is a video of that type of setup:

and also this:

Removing cats and resonators does make the exhaust noticeably loud but it might be more than you want. Here is a video of that:

Here is a vid with muffler and cat delete(very loud):

P.S. I hate raspy sounding exhaust on a V8. Making straight pipes or removing cats and mufflers generally give you a loud and raspy exhaust. Type of Mufflers and piping diameter are what usually tones the exhaust to a deeper, growling sound. That's just my opinion. Others can differ.

I just had the resonators removed on my S55 AMG, sounds good, even when you slightly get on it but keeps its manners when cruising. I left the balance of the factory exhaust untouched

I can lose power after removing muffler? Maybe i should replace this with thinner pipe for keep pressure inside exhaust?

Magnaflow mufflers are a little bit expensive for just better sound

Currently I'm working on our '03 S600 TT and have the exhaust off, because I'm replacing it due to holes rusting through the steel. Replaced the cats after 175,000 miles with Genuine-MB ones. The only things on at present are the turbos (of course) and the cats. It sounds like what it effectively is--straight-piped--and this is a turbocharged engine. Yes, of course there's the 2,800 RPM drone.

If I were to do this with a V8, I'd just put on the S55 AMG's exhaust and be done with it. The car would sound good without droning. I briefly considered buying the S65 AMG exhaust for my car, since it should fit and I have to replace it anyway. Ended up sticking with the S600 exhaust, both for the sound and for the fact that M-B has discontinued the S65 AMG W220 exhaust. :-)
