Weird navigation issues [SOLVED]
I bought a nav DVD from eBay that used to work in my 2006 S65. Just today, COMAND started giving me some strange errors such as "Nav DVD wrong version" or "Nav DVD not inserted" even though the disc is in the drive in the trunk. Taking the disc out and putting it back in, COMAND says initializing navigation which takes several minutes. Sometimes it works, but other times now it will say Nav DVD not inserted. Additionally, when driving and the map view was at least working, I lost the ability to zoom in/out and at one point, the map area just turned grey.
Is this is a sign of a failing navigation dvd reader? If so, is it a simple swap?

By the way, it appears that the navigation dvd reader can be pulled out of the trunk without having to remove the liner by using a special key or tool. Is that correct? If so, does anyone have the part number for the tool?

I guess it could be the disc, but if it worked for a long period of time and then just stopped and started having the problems you describe then to me it sounds like the unit. I'm not sure if it pulls out without taking the side lining out but that side lining takes a minute to come out.

After reading the information posted here, it seems to be more of an issue with the drive than the disc. At least that's my assumption.
Anyway, it's cheaper for me to source a used but working DVD drive than it is to buy a factory DVD disc and try it. If it still doesn't work, then I'll look at replacing the disc.

Should I be wrong, how does the liner come out?

I ordered this one. Seems to be the same seller you linked to. According to the description, the map is the same product as the one in your link except cheaper.

No, I didn't update firmware. Didn't think I had to as the first time I inserted the DVD, it worked fine. Now it's constantly giving me the error.

Quick update to this thread. Received a replacement DVD drive module from eBay today. Paid $85 for a unit that had the same part number as the one in my car. Only difference was the manufacturing date. The replacement was made 7 May, while the one in the car had a date of 16 May.
Pulling the old drive out of the car was incredibly easy with the right tools. I used the Mercedes radio keys to pull the drive out. No need to remove the trunk liner. All in all, it took less than 5 minutes to swap drives.
I put the disc back in and after a minute or two of updating the firmware, the navigation started working again. So all in all, it was the drive that was failing and not the disc.
