Talking interesting observation

Does anyone know why COMMAND emits a "laser" signal?

When I point my Escort 8500 at the command screen, it screams LASER out

I point away and wait till it clears and point back and again, it screams LASER.

Interesting...

Speaking of radar detectors, does anyone elses go off when one of those p.o.s. envoys hits their brakes. My valentine shows laser and scares the crap out of me every time.

I hear that the LED's or something like that they emit a laser signal therefore triggering our radar detectors.

My Valetine 1 falses on all GM midside sport ute third brake lights. My Passport 8500 does not.

My Valentine 1 will also false when it sees the infrared port of my laptop, so perhaps that's the issue with the COMAND system (it broadcasts some kind of IR remote pulse).

Here's why. I'm assuming your COMAND is the same as the one in my father's 2001 S500, and includes the CD-Based Navigation system.

(Now we're all aware that CDs and DVDs are encoded by a little low-power laser beam that burns little tiny pits into the surface of the disc. In order to read any of the digital or analog storage on these discs, a low power laser beam must be employed.)

So as long as you have the navigation system in the COMAND, there's going to be a laser beam present, and your Escort 8500 has to be able to pick up laser at a considerable distance, so it will be set off by the low-powered laser in your dash.... and sorry if my first post ever came off nerdy, but its late and i'm tired.

Thank you.

I THINK, when I was working at Battery Plus, someone tried to tell me that LED's were based on the same principle as Laser but just lower power, so that might be it? I have no clue though.

OH shoot! I just remembered that IR is LED-based too, and since we assume that they're all based on the same idea of concentrated light (laser), then it all fits together perfectly doesn't it....Detectors pick up laser at a distance (or should), so therefore would pick up any low-powered laser-like or laser-based objects at closer range...anyone with me?
