electronic ignition switch replaced
i took helga(2001 s430) in to have the codes read because she was shutting down in the middle of the road. the shop said she had 642 instances of eis failure, plus a list of other codes as long as my arm, which all stemmed from the eis.
the shop called mbusa and were told to call stuttgart because helga is an s class (dictator car (my words not meant to offend))
the engineers in stuttgart had to dial into Helga to find out what was going on. they told the shop that she needed a new eis and reprogrammed. my husband told the shop to go ahead and get the part and do the work. the shop called a couple days later and said we needed to provide a copy of a drivers license from a person on the registration, a copy of the registration and a signature on an authorization form before they could even get the part sent over. so my husband went to the shop and handled the paperwork. a week later the part came in and the shop did the work.
i picked helga up and noticed that the soft close doors weren't working. my husband called the shop and they said to bring her back in. it turns out that the programming for the eis system was installed in english but the body control computer downloaded programming in german. the shop spent 2 hours on the phone with the engineers in stuttgart while they dialed in to Helga to reprogram her in english.
