Tire reccomendations
OP lives in Chicago. Spent a lot of time there. It gets cold. It snows. So, if you want to keep just one set of tires on it, I would recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ That's what I've got on my 2005 S600. Excellent dry and wet performance. Not as good as winter tires in winter, but far less dangerous than summer performance tires in winter.
The optimum set-up is a set of performance tires in summer, and a set of winter tires in winter. Winter tires use softer rubber that stays flexible in cold and have tread designs to maintain grip on wintry "mix" conditions like snow/ice/sleet. IF I lived in Chicago, that's how I would set up my car. (or have a winter beater and leave the MB garaged, but...). When I lived in Vermont, that's how I set up the tires on every vehicle. Winter tires can provide up to twice the traction of all-seasons in snow/ice. Summer tires - well, they're downright dangerous in cold and particularly on ice. Got trapped in Vermont with my S600 (rolling on high performance tires) in an unforecast ice storm. Downright dangerous. The Pilot AS3+ are a lot less dangerous. Still not winter tire good in snow, but they don't suck like other performance tires...
