Putting an AMG Badge on an S500 w/AMG SPORT PACKAGE
Do you guys think it's wrong to put AMG on an S500 that has the AMG Sport Package? I mean your not changin the 500 to 55 nor are you putting the V8 Kompressor sign on. The package costs about $5K, which is a lot for a package , what do you guys think?

too many to list
Hmm interesting question. If an E500 with AMG package can have an AMG badge on it from the factory then I guess its ok. But keep in mind that the E500 AMG has the E55 exhaust so technically thats a performance modification which deals with engine components, whereas the AMG package on the S-class doesnt have much to do with engine performance. But it can also be argued that the wheels and aerodynamic parts of the package deal with performance. I think its ok to put the badge on if you have AMG modification aside from the "sport" package. Sorry if that came out wrong.

From AMG's webpage (http://www.mbusa.com/amg/faq/index.jsp):
Q: Where can I get AMG badges to put on my C230 (or any other lower line car) to make it look like I have a real AMG?
A: AMG badges alone will not convince car enthusiasts that a vehicle was built by AMG. True AMG vehicles are easily recognizable through their intake and exhaust systems and their AMG-developed aerodynamic bodywork and alloy wheels. Owners who need to replace their AMG badge can obtain one as a spare part through their Mercedes-Benz dealership.
Q: Does AMG badging on the C320 and S430 make these AMG models?
A: No. Only AMG-developed high performance vehicles are considered true AMG models. Characteristics of AMG models include the following: hand-assembled AMG engines, AMG-optimized drivetrains, high-performance braking and exhaust systems, AMG alloy wheels and a modified outward appearance and interior. The badging is only a small, additional designation of the high-performance character of an AMG vehicle.

I agree with bmw740. Sure it may have the looks of the AMG but I think everybody would agree that the spirit of AMG is not in the looks but the performance. The main component of AMG is the special engine/drivetrain/performance systems. Since you're car doesn't have those I don't think it should have the AMG badge.

The point was that installed AMG package actually made by AMG. With AMG package you indeed getting low body sculpture, rims, etc. designed by AMG. Since that AMG label is appropriate.
In case if engine/exhaust is AMG made, that labels as S55 AND AMG.

The badge is find as long as you have the COMPLETE KIT with AMG wheels and you keep the S500/430/600 whatever.
Once you have the engine though, do whatever the hell you want!
Real car guys know what's what.

Why do you want it? If it's to have others ogle you and your car and praise you for having an AMG, then it's totally not cool. Posers stink.
If it's just for your own personal sense of satisfaction that all cars with any AMG parts, engine or not, should have an AMG badge, then sure. I wouldn't personally do it, but it's your right.

You are in compliance, it's a cool emblem that identifies automotive enthuiasm!
Last year I removed the S430 on my trunk and added an AMG emblem. Since then, I replaced my sport bumpers with a genuine Lorinser DTM kit. I left the AMG on the trunk. If I change my wheels, I might remove it.
If I had an S55 I probably wouldn't want any badges - but that situation might not occur for another 1-2 years
Sad to say, but true enthusiasts know AMG does not mean what it used to, e.g. the Hammer![action](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/action1.gif)
(do not take bmw740il comments to heart, he is a beemer guy without a home)

AMG to me is the hand built engine.
the body panels and the wheels are
cosmetic. the true difference is what's
under the hood. all MB's are great!!!!

For everyone: As I discussed before... IMO (not like I did or planning to do it, but in general) it is appropriate to attach AMG badge on the trunk or sides if you have AMG authentic products installed - especially factory installed AMG package.
This is the same as puting badge Lorinser or Brabus once you put some of those kits/stuff on your car.
And yes - all MB's are great!!!

Do whatever makes you happy. This topic is brought up all the time in all of the forums and the bottom line is that there is always going to be arguments for both sides. What ends up happening always ends up in the hands of the person who owns the car. So just put the badge on if that's what you want, nobody is going to stop you.

No one is asking what to do and what not with their cars.
IMO this is more ethical question.

It's only $15-20. If that can make you feel good (faster), do it. It's your car.
Just don't drive next to a real AMG. You might encounter some (none physical) damage.

It's not my car, it's my mom's....and I highly doubt that she would let me put an AMG badge on it. Anyhow, I think she might be getting a 2006 S55, anyone know when that's available. Thanks for all the info....I just wanted to know whether or not it's considered ethical.

Just guessing that if MB comes out with new body in MY 2006 they might hold production of S55 untill MY 2007 as it happens to most MB new model introduction...
