2004 s 500 trunk problems

My trunk on my 2004 s 500 will not open when you press the trunk button inside the car and on the key fob, you will hear the air but trunk will not automatically come open you have to force it up. When you go to close the trunk the passenger side of the trunk up close to the back window will not close all the way and it looks like that one side is still opene. can you bypass this process so trunk will come open? i dont even use my trunk because of this hassle

Welcome to the forum.

My 2006 s500 had hinges that dragged a lot and would not auto open. I used some gun oil (that's what I had) and every thing moving better. I also replaced the trunk struts as I did not know how old they were. The check I would also do is use the auto release button. Wait for the click and try to gently help it open. You should hear the lifting motor trying to open, but if not then it is time to track down the fuse and/ or check the motor at that point. It also works on a self contained hydrolic fluid system that might be low.
A youtube video on the pump I found.

ok first of all does your trunk have gas lifting struts or springs ? There are two options - gas struts with the hydraulic opener and close function , and the pump under the battery / and standard springs with no pump under the battery

im gurssing you have the pump under the battery and it had run out of hydraulic fluid or failed electrically
