shifter shaft linkage transmission leak

hey guys

our 2001 s500 has a leak at the above location of the transmission as i am told by my mechanic....he usually sends work out transmiester in orange but apparently he has retired or does limited work

does anyone know if this repair is a transmission out job....one place we checked said that it is and that if they have the trans they will do a full rebuild....that leads me to 3-4 grand with everything....thats a lot for a car with 240000 miles that is seldom used....we use it just when people visit or a extra car is needed

i know the part is not expensive but access is the issue....anyone have any advice or tips or experience with this situation.....

ive thought of using a bottle or motor purr tune up or bars stop leak to see if it curtails the issue....thanks all
