How can you read the miles if the cluster LCD doesn't work?

Hey guys,

I bought a smashed S500 W220 for parts and the LCD doesn't work. I want to know the mileage. Is there another way? Can I connect another cluster or will it just be lines?

I believe that the answer depends upon the model year.
