S500 Dip stick

Hello everyone,

Recently I brought used 2005 S-500 4Matic. I wanted to see the quality and level of oil, and when I pull the dip stick handle, to my surprise it is only the cap and there is no stick part. Is this normal for this car? if so, how do you guys check the level of oil?

Thanks.

The steering wheel buttons for oil level but not oil condition, read on display in Speedo window.

Thanks for the info. That makes me wonder why did MB provided the tube and dipstic cap? Is this something we can add using after market sticks?
