Service Interval on W220, does everyone follow?
Hey guys,
I was just wondering about the service interval on the W220's? On my 2001 S500 the service schedule is every 10k miles and I believe that they alternate from a serivce type 'A' to type 'B'. I couldn't imagine going that long on the same engine oil so I take my car in every 5K miles and I end up paying about 100bucks for the oil change, but the next 5k miles when I take it in the service is covered by Mercedes since it's at the 10K interval. Do you guys just go the 10k miles or get oil changes every 5k miles?

there's been a lot of debate over whether to go for 5k intervals or 10k (as per FSS) intervals. I guess some people are use to old ways of oil changing every 5k, BUT synthetic oils have proven themselves over the long run...they are still good even at 15-20k miles on one change.
I've looked at the oil myself and I can say it's still pretty good condition at 10k intervals (both ML and S).
We just do it when the FSS says so (usually right around 1k left we bring it in). We've used the FSS on the S so far and no problems as well as the ML.

Besides what said above, MB (after discontinuing "Free Maintenance Program" decided to stick with 13k oil change - regardless FSS, so I guess 8k-10k between service on M1 oil is fine...). Even on my '98 ML320 they had 10k interval between oil changes, so I guess that system using on M1 was proven for all these years...
