Start Engine button stopped working after stuck in P fix

So recently my 2004 s500 was having issues with the gearbox being stuck in park.
https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w22...ols-heres.html
I took apart the entire thing and found that the plastic piece inside the gearbox had a crack causing it to not disengage the system properly to move the shifter from P to D. So after replacing the plastic piece with a metal one, I put everything back together. Tried to start the car via the start button on the shifter, doesn't work. Pressing once without brake wouldn't get the electronics to start. Pressing start with the brake doesn't get the ignition to start. No response at all. The car does recognize that the key is in the car. I can lock the doors with the key and the touch buttons on the door. What do you think is the new issue? Funny it happens after taking the shifter apart. I know I plugged everything in properly.

Could it be that the TCU has an error for anti theft? Possibly I wasn't paying attention and turn on the ignition without the cables plugged into the gearbox? Would that disable the button entirely?
