HELP!! KEY STOLEN, ECU SWAPPED, STARTS BUT DOESN'T SHIFT

Hey guys,

My 05 S500 was on the side of the road with the key in the ignition and the window down. I was across the road maybe for 2 minutes....someone snatched the key. Didn't see who it was and why but that's a long unfortunate story. I shouldn't have left the key.

Anyways I have an ECU, key, shifter and EIS set from another 05 S500. I put everything in, the car starts fine but the shifter doesn't work, it shifts but nothing happens whether I'm in D, P, N or R it's like in P and just revs. What's going on, is there something else I have to swap. All that stuff came from one car which drove fine.

When I replaced all this I forgot to disconnect the battery, could that be it?

Thanks for any help.

if the car starts then it passed all the anti theft system Checks. So you probably just didn’t install the shifter correctiy . Unplug it and try again, and yes disconnect the battery . You shouldn’t need any programming unless one car was a 4matic car (with 5 speed transmission ) versus the rear wheel drive car that used a 7 speed transmission.

Make sure that neither end of the shift rod has fallen off. Get under the car safely and remove the small heat shield near the end of the transmission - you can then see both ends of the shift rod from the shifter to the transmission.

The thing is I actually even tried to shift the rod thing by hand which has worked for me with prefacelift W220s before but it's not doing anything in this car. I'm really confused.
