Wondering if anyone else experienced this. I looked over the forums but always found CPS is bad or car has codes. Sometimes, not every day maybe 1 time a week, the car (2004 S430 4Matic) cranks and no start, try again and it starts. No codes at all and no other noticeable issues. I had a CPS go out in the past on my other Benz and it all seemed to be the same as that one so i did replace the sensor. after a few days go the same problem.
Does anyone have any ideas? With the icarsoft attached, what should I be looking for?

look for RPM during cranking. chances are it will show it.. I've had this issue with my CLK55. the only known fixes are 1) lubricate the flywheel (yes, really) 2) replace fuel pump and filter (pressure issues) and 3) replace starter (slightly too slow cranking rpm)

I believe my issue was the starter because it started firing first time when I jumped power directly to the starter.

Thanks. I dont think its my starter because it cranks fine, no slow cranking at all.
I do feel stupid though now, the fuel filter! That is something that probably should be changed anyway and I suppose could be the reason. I tend, sometimes, to ignore the basic stuff thinking it is something in depth and technical. I think thats becuase cars have become so computer dependent, the basics get forgotten sometimes. I will try the filter and see how things go.

I assumed you tried the crankshaft sensor. Have you looked at the camshaft sensor?

Thanks, I thought about that but I was assuming some sort of code would come up with that sensor going bad. Or I was hoping to find out what to look for on the scanner that may tell me this. Like I said no codes. What I will do first is replace the fuel filter this weekend and see where that takes things.
