Difference between A and B on FSS

Not that it is important or anything, but now that I have had 2 FSS visits that I have had to pay for (dealer paid for the first 50K miles, I just hit 70K miles), I have been getting different prices from three dealers on A service and B service, but I don't see much of a difference in the work to be performed (between A and B).

For example one dealer might charge 175.00 for A service and 349.00 for B service, but another dealer charges 399.00 for A service and 249.00 for B service.

Anyone else notice this?

$399 for A service is absurd...it's really just a "glorified" oil change. They change the oil and go over everything else to check and make sure they're not broken, leaking or loose (hoses, fluids, tires, etc). You may pay for an hour's worth of labor for all the checking and oil change time then parts on top of that (oil, filter, washers, etc)...about $150 sounds more right.

Service B would be a little more, $249 sounds about right as well. Service B does a little more involved work, changing out filters, rotate the tires if necesary, oil change, oil filter, etc.

We're still on warranty for services on the S till next summer, July '05 and/or another ~18k miles...so I haven't seen the bill for service A or B to see how much. On the ML, my independent dealer charges $100 for service A. Not sure about B yet.
