Axle Boot
Ok, ok. Went under my car to drain diff oil and replace it when saw that both of my axle boots are torn
What are my options? I dont really see replacement boots, only whole axle assembly which cost more than a car itself in duo. Also, based on forum posts on other models, I guess no matter what axle has to be removed, right?
PS. 2000 S500

Aftermarket parts stores sell "split" boots that can be replaced in situ.
That said, the uni joints are probaly full of contamination.
Rebuild or used may be an alternative if the uni joints are not good.

So I guess, I'll just keep driving it till axles fall off and then just replace em?
PS. Any good article on how to replace axles?

As long as the joints aren't full of junk or making noise I've found that thoroughly cleaning them out, re-packing, and installing new boots is a more reliable repair than installing "remanufactured" shafts. Usually cheaper too.

"remanufactured" shafts are universally garbage. Cheap, and not worth what you pay for them.
Reboot yours now, or wait and get new, not remanufactured shafts. See if Pelican carries GKN shafts. They're new European manufacture and would be a good choice.

i removed both of my axles with the intentions of replacing them with remanufactured axles and now I can't find any lol.
should I just clean up my old ones?

I've been looking for a replacement boot kit but I haven't settled on one yet.
My inner and outer cv joints are torn on both axles and I don't know how long they've been torn. I'm afraid the joints might be in rough shape so I was hoping to replace them entirely.
Thanks!
Interesting, I'll look into that kit. Thanks!

I ended up putting in some used oem axles that I found on ebay. the install was very straight forward but I've already torn one of the new "used" boots.
It might be because I have the car significantly lowered on coilovers or the rubber was old and brittle on the used axle. oh well, im gonna drive it until it gives me problems lol
