Storage question and 8 year old battery story
Question first, then the story that promped it. When the w220 needs to sit for a month or more, should I disconnect the battery to keep it from draining? And If I do, will it cause problems?
Dec 13th, Finally got the front suspension work finished. A
cold spell came causing my s430 to be completely unresponsive in the morning. I put a battery charger on it all day till it said charged and still no response. Absolutely nothing. I was busy getting ready for Christmas and a kitchen remodel so I waited and did searches. EIS came up and so did my anxiety! When I got home did a volt test and got 3 volts on the battery! Looking at the label the battery was an Interstate battery from 2010. Seems they don't make the interstate battery for the w220 anymore. Shame, it was a good battery lasting 8 years and I would have been happy to buy one. Got the ACDelco 49AGM and all is well. The car had sat for 3 months this summer and it will likely sit for a month this coming summer. I'm not sure what impact that has on the battery life.

If you have power available, a battery maintainer is a great deal better than disconnecting the battery. Disconnecting the battery seems to lead to electrical/computer problems on the W220.
