2001 S430 Side Mirrors Won't Fold

I was about to replace both of my door mirror seals when I found I could not fold the door mirrors, which is needed to perform this replacement. The door mirror switch works to adjust the mirrors themselves, but the lower buttons do nothing to fold the mirror unit towards the car. When I press the fold button (or the unfold button) for either side, I hear a click in the respective mirror and that's it. I've tried single clicking and holding the buttons down to no avail. I even tried to set the car to automatically fold the mirrors on locking, which didn't work either. It appears the auto-fold isn't available for 2001 models even though it appears in the instrument cluster options. Since I've had this car I've never used the fold mirror function so I have no idea when it stopped working or what might have caused it. I'm going to check the wiring in both mirrors although I'm clueless about what I'm looking for besides obvious damage. The seals are pretty broken down but the leds are functioning (not great, going to replace them as well, one doesn't fully light up and they seem to blink too quickly) and the mirrors themselves are able to be adjusted so I'm not sure if it's a problem with the side mirrors themselves, the switch or who knows.

Any suggestions on what is most likely causing the problem or things I should check? Also, is it possible to fold the side mirrors manually without breaking them or is electronically the only way?

Could be the wires are pinched. I would just unfold it by hand. I've done that before.

Mine turned out to be the door control module. Also made the soft close not work on the driver door. I replaced with used unit and mirror folds again. Soft close also works again. My broken one had corrosion inside

If the instrument cluster was replaced, the autofold will not function anymore, and cannot be activated. There is an MB SB on that (somewhere).
