Airmatic pump works by mood?
Hello,
I'm NOT new to mercedes, or airmatic, also read everything in encyklopedia, but was not able to find answer.
Here's the case:
I've bought w220 s500 2000yr with leaking rear air bag. Replaced air bag, and had difficulty to make compressor run, after lowering car from the car filt. Only way it worked, when I started car and drove like 2 meters forth and back. I had some leak, so it didn't came up all the way, compressor shut off, and didn't engage again. I was trying to drive around the block, push raise button, nothing. Removed relay, shortened contacts- compressor working. Switched relays, with another one in relay compartment, and then compressor has kicked in. Later car has lowered a bit, but compressor does not engage AGAIN. I have even undone air pressure line, for rear to come fully down, thought it would turn on compressor. Now it shows car too low- meaning level sensor is working, but compressor doesn't engage.
What could be the cause of compressor running whenever it wants?
And how to make it work?
Car is sitting in small town with no STAR nearly available.

My weird Airmatic problem was caused by the power connector on the front of the compressor.
It needed a cable tie around it, to pull the two connectors closer together.
Alls been fine since.
