Rear door ashtray wont stay closed

Rear door ashtray wont stay closed

The rear door ashtray of my 01' 220 wont stay closed. I think a clip or lock must have broke.

Tried prying and lookin around and cant seem to find the mechanism that keeps it in the closed position.

Anyone knows how to remove the entire ashtray assembly so I can check behind it? Do I have to remove the entire door panel to remove the ashtray?

You do it the way you remove it to clean it,
Just pull it out,

lemme go to my car and see how my guy removes it when he cleans the car,

Thanks, I am able to remove the small "bucket" which easily comes off to allow emptying the ash tray of trash.

However, to try to diagnose and to fix the locking mechanism, I think I would have to be able to remove the entire ashtray assembly/housing, not only the removable "bucket".
