I don't know what's going on with my trunk
I have a 2003 Mercedes S500
This happened earlier in the night when I went to get something in my trunk. I open my trunk, the light comes on for a few seconds and suddenly turns off and the handle retracts back inside(acting like the trunk is closed). The green light is still on.
I decided to see if everything to open the trunk still worked and through the button on the driver side, the key fob, and the button on the trunk all open the trunk just fine. It's just the light and the handle that are acting strange.
I don't know what to do and what my next course of action I should be taking.
Should I be checking a fuse? Will my trunk eventually not work if I keep it as is(by that I mean it won't be able to open in the future)? Please help

One possibility is that the microswitch that tells the system that the trunk is closed has failed, and the computer thinks that the lid is always closed.
