2005 S430 Rusted Parts in Rear

Hi,
My 2005 S430 was up on the lift tonight for a tire rotation.
I took some photos.
There are what looks like a rusted bracket that holds a rubber hanger.
Looks like it was welded to the muffler, but rusted out.

Looks like it was on the muffler. Pass side.

Same thing on driver side.

Rear axle, looks rusty.

Yeah, this is a common issue with the W220. You should check all fastening points all along the muffler system. They all start corroding over the years. I've got mine fixed, by welding just standard steel rods in place, where the original fixing points were gone. Important is, that the muffler parts are still "healthy" enough to weld the parts. Mine were even done by a MB Workshop. The only special request from them was, to deliver the raw steel material, as they didn't have these in stock. The labor cost, was roughly 1h.

Any muffler shop should be able to repair the mounts for you. You might want to check with more than one shop - some folks think that all Mercedes owners are made of money and will pay whatever they demand.

Mercedes
Simple muffler hangers , any muffler shop can weld on new hangers . If there is a large Hispanic area in your city go to a muffler shop there , they tend to do small fixes for small prices and don’t try to sell you a whole new exhaust system

Got it fixed for 150 at Meineke....those were the only 2 that were busted.
Also had him weld a new link between the pipes at the back (also super rusted).

Thanks again for the advice!
