2000 S430
2000 S430 wrong mileage 999 999km!!
Hi! New member here.
I just bought a S430 and I repaired a lot of things on the car. I've been a mechanic for nearly 20 years, domestics and imports ( I'm from Canada ) and I just want to know if this happened to somebody.
To put you in context, here's what I did:
The car didn't crank. Dead battery. Replaced battery, still no crank. Repaired the starter. Now cranks, but no start. Scope the crank sensor, no signal. Change the crank sensor, BOOM, I have a working car. I look at the dash, 999 999km... impossible. Scanned the data from the ICM, 146 000 km. Unplugged battery, unplugged dash, erase dtcs, nothing's changed, still 999 999km.
Other than replacing the ICM, do you guys have another idea? Did it happen to somebody? And, before you ask, no, I didn't try to mess with the mileage.

IIRC, I read that on the pre-facelift cars, the mileage is recorded only in the ICM, and if you drive the car for a while, the mileage will self-correct on the odo..

but if the instrument cluster has been swapped it may never show correct mileage

There are many choices for DAS/Xentry Diagnostics for MB.
Ensure you have the right information before getting one. There is too much misleading info.

You have a 2000 S430, i. e. a pre-facelift car. I had to replace the instrument cluster on the wife's 2000 S500 as well. STAR/DAS allows you to reprogram the instrument cluster mileage to the correct reading.
