S CLASS VS. E CLASS 4 matic

For 2003, S will have the 4matic option and the E Class will shortly have the 4matic version available.

However, for anyone that can help, I have a question.

If I get an E Class 4 matic will all the options I want (which by the way are standard in the S Class), then the S class is basically about $9,000.00 CDN more.

Am I better of opting for an S Class?

That is a personal choice. I am 6' 2" and I often have passengers in my 2002 S 55. I have driven and riden in many E Class sedans. While they are a woderful vehicle, I personally don't believe the two are comparable. I prefer the additional room afforded me in the S series cabin.

Additionally, for those that care about such things, I feel the S Class has more prestige and Panche'. I have read some comments that drivers prefer the lighter, smaller and presumaly more nimble E Class Vs. the S Class. I can only tell you that from personal experience, I would rather drive my S 55 in Sport mode with 20" Lowenhardts than any other sports car I have owned in the past. Including the 1997 Porche Turbo I owned and have since sold!

Hey n2growth

Would you be able to post some pics of your car? I have arguing with myself trying to decide if I like just the stock 18's on the S55 or custom's better. Anyway could you give me any insight on the topic? Also how do you or did you like the Dunlop SP Sport 9000's?

Cheers

I do not have a digital camera. I am thinking about giving my wife one for Mothers Day. I will post some pictues then.

I did not go with the Dunlop SP9000's. I had them for 5 years on my 1996 S500 so I wanted to try something different. I ended up going with Khumo 255/35 ZR 20's. I have taken some freeway on ramps at 80 MPH. LOL. Previous experience tells me you can only get away with this when you have brand new rubber.

Peace

M3 E36 owners have often posted that the Kumho's offer excellent dry weather grip but get scary in the rain. any experience with the 'wet' phenomenon?

Nice S55. One suggestion, ditch those lowenharts. Too flashy and waaaaaaay too heavy. Plus, they are everywhere.

Get some custom HRE wheels. Lightweight, unique, and they still turn heads.

jl88, I like the HRE's as well but I must get stopped atleast once a day by people going nuts over my wheels. I've had much lighter wheels on my previous S500.(Anterra's) I had to have the wheels fixed 3 times because they were out of round. Hitting a pothole at 80 MPH destroys the lighter wheels. I only have 700 miles on this new S55 and I have already winced on two separate occasions after hitting something in the road. The Lowenhardt's are still 100% round soooooooo, I would say I am happy. It's all good.

AmGbOy, yes I do have the wood trim package. It was already dealer installed when I purchased the car. Looks great. I have attached a picture of the dash. The trim is also on all of the doors.

As for the digital camera, I gave her the new Minolta DimageX. She wanted a full featured point and shoot camera. She also wanted something very small and stylish. The camera only weighs 4.7 ounces and it's only 3.3 x 2.8 x 0.78 inches. It's stainless steel and looks very sexy. It was only $399 before I added a 64 meg chip.

Here's a link to a review of the camera if you would like to check it out:

Hey n2growth thanks for the quick reply! I have a couple more questions if you dont mind? I wanted to know how you like the sound system on your car and if it is stock or custom. If custom how did you like the stock one and what did you do to customize. Also are your windows custom tint? Thanks again for the quick reply its a big help.

The stereo is all stock. I've only had the care a few weeks. My last MBZ was an S500 with MB Quarts, Amps and a sub. (Like jl88)
I may be getting a little old but I think the stock stereo rocks. I don't think I'm going to change anything.

The windows are Black Medium tint on the sides and Black Dark on the rear.

2001 S430, 1985 380SL, and a retired 1987 300e (I miss her)
I have an old e-class and a new S430. I bought the S430 because my children are tall and we travel in the S430. Our trip to Florida last month was sweet for them in the back seat. If we did not have tall children, I would have bought another e-class. I like the smaller nimbler car.
