ESP malfunction - visit workshop

2003 S430 - Tried starting it last night and it just keeps cranking but not starting. The dashboard displays a message that says "ESP malfunction, visit workshop." No other lights or messages appear. I had just fueled it up and driven back home in the rain, if any of that is relevant.

I'm living at college right now and would like to avoid towing it to a shop if at all possible. Any mechanics or enthusiasts able to offer advice on how to go about looking for a solution? Thanks all.

Was the engine still warm when it wouldn’t restart ? Will it restart now that it’s cold ?

if it starts now that it’s cold it’s your crank position sensor

if it still doesn’t start check the black plastic reservoir under passenger side windshield for water buildup

It does start now that it's cold. The check engine light came on as well. I'm not sure which of the issues you mentioned could have caused it since water that was backed up may have drained now. Could you explain why these issues would cause an "ESP malfunction" and what can be done to resolve them? Thanks for your help!

It’s your crank position sensor . Change it . Very common problem . That’s why your car wouldn’t start when hot

And also clean out your Reed valve video here
