Correct coolant level in expansion tank?

My understanding is that the correct coolant level on a cold engine should be at the part of the expansion tank where the black top starts, but is that at the back of the tank closer to the cap or the lower part in the front of the tank? If the line is at the back of the tank, the level would obviously be higher since the tank slopes. Also, what would be considered the minimum acceptable level in the expansion tank?

Thanks

You can just fill it to the top and any excess will spill out naturally, leaving you full

The exact level is not critical...

The car will let you know if the level is too low, and as tusabes says, if the level is too high, it is self-correcting.

Thanks for the responses.

My main issue with not knowing the precise level it's supposed to stay at: how would one be able to determine over time whether they have a slow coolant leak without any visible signs of a leak vs the system is just balancing to the right level on its own?

if you have a slow leak the coolant level warning will show up on your dash
