W220 Trunk Opening Problem
I have a 2002 S430 with kind of an odd problem. It started a few months ago after I was doing maintenance on it and had the battery discounted. after that, I noticed there was a very long delay in the truck opening when trying to open it after the car has been locked. It takes about 5-10 seconds for the trunk to open after you push the button, but only after the car has been sitting locked. When it does eventually open, it releases fine and it also opens without any delay when the car is unlocked which makes me think it's probably not a problem with the opening mechanism but maybe with the locking mechanism. Its the same whether I use the trunk button or the key fob button. All the other posts I've seen about trunk problems involve the opening mechanism and the vacuum pump but like I said, It works fine when the car's unlocked and is only a problem when it's locked. I have the standard truck, not the power open/close feature. What do you guys think the problem could be? If it's the locking mechanism, how would I go about fixing it? Thanks!

It’s pneumatic so it’s taking time to build enough air pressure to operate . There is likely a leak somewhere in the system could be any where from the locking mechanism, to o rings in the pump, to lines , etc etc

Maybe but, the thing is if the car is sitting unlocked I could open and close the trunk 100 times in a row with no problems or delay. It’s only when I try to open the trunk after the car has been sitting locked that the delay occurs.
