Mirror blinkers, no power

Hello all. I have a 2001 S430, as just a bit of a project car. It's a very tough car to work on. Even lightly touching a plastic tab breaks, everything is so brittle and parts are hard to come by. In any case, BOTH my mirror blinkers quit blinking I have no clue why. No other door controls have an issue. A few years back, I replaced the blinkers with aftermarket blinkers on both mirrors. I just removed BOTH mirror covers and put a 12volt AC adapter on them and they light up fine! I am not understanding why specifically the mirror blinkers, or the wires leading to them failed. If it were a fuse, it would probably affect other things. Anyone has clue?

You're telling me that the door control module on the driver side can affect the blinker on the passenger side as well??

The door control module interconnects with everything even the instrument cluster

I Understand, but I would think maybe something else wouldn't work if it's the dcm. I don't want to throw parts at it if that's not the issue. Regardless, looks like I'll have to remove the door panel and start checking wires and crap.

Update: Removed the trim portion that holds the door switch and removed all connectors from the DCM and reconnected them, and it did not help. Still not blinkers. I found the pins on the cable coming in from the mirror on a 10 pin black connector, there are only two pins. There is continuity from the outside mirror blinker connector all the way to the dcm side of the cable. So there is no issue with the wiring. I guess it is the DCM. It still just doesn't make sense how every single DCM function works on BOTH doors except the mirror blinkers.

I replaced the driver side door DCM. Absolutely no change. Mirror blinkers still dead, waste of money. Unless the DCM I purchased has the same exact problem mine supposedly has (what are the chances?) then something else is wrong. Can someone with w220 electrical knowledge help? how's this possible?

You didn’t waste any money, if you bought it on eBay you can return it with free return shipping

or if you bought it elsewhere you can sell it on eBay for probably the same price you paid if not more . Or just keep it until you need it , they all fail at some point .

Finally progress. It was the DCM that was faulty, only for the blinkers. The problem was also the wiring from the aftermarket light, so I fixed that and finally, finally there is power and it blinks, only it fast blinks. I heard there was a resistor mod to 'fool' the computer into thinking there isn't anything wrong with the blinker? Also the passenger door dcm blinker terminals seems to be dead too. There just no voltage.

There are more than two wires coming in from the mirror - are you certain that you had the correct two black wires?
Did you check for power on the wires that you checked?

Glad the DCM was the culprit and you fixed it.
People sell anything defective on Ebay.
Sometimes better to by from a junkyard.

I’m confused

Unless I missed it, Why has nobody suggested the first culprit of faulty blinkers?

Blinker Fluid

happy Sunday and good luck.

These items are always hit or miss when used and a careful balance between and Indy being cheaper in the end.

The "fast" blinking is caused by poor performance of the mirror LEDs

Both blinkers are fine, I put them on a 12 dc adapter and they lit up beautifully.

The DCM I bought off ebay was good, it fixed the issue. At first I didn't think it fixed the issue but then I found bad wiring at the mirror housing and fixed it. The only thing is now I have a bad DCM on the passenger door. I can either buy another one off ebay or see if I can open it and somehow fix it.

Also for the fast blinking, I heard it's because the LEDs use less power than OE bulbs and there is also less resistance so the MB computer thinks there is a fault. I have purchased a few 5 watt , 150ohm resistors to see if this will fix fast blink.

If you search the forums there is a way to install the left DCM on the other door.
Good luck!
