S600 Project

Hello everyone.

I wanted to record here the work I have been doing (and plan to do) with my S600.

I got it fairly recently and I have driven it pretty much every day since I got it. She is not perfect but then that would not be fun at all, would it?

The issues I currently have are a misfire that happens only under hard downshifting conditions at speed. It does not happen at hard acceleration from 0 and it always goes away when the car is shut off. If the car is not pushed hard, it just does not happen. According to the previous owner, it was cats. The other issue that I have is a whining noise that I believe is the ABC Pump, I have no ABC lights, suspensions works as it should. The lines are good. I just think the pump is old. Other than these two things, the car is good, it is my daily driver and I enjoy driving it very much.

Now to the fun stuff.

I have replaced all the underbody panels since they were a bit damaged, nothing too bad but definitely enough to warrant a replacement. I have also tinted the windows, changed the side markers for LED ones, done an oil change and ABC filter change, replaced the pulsation dampener, fixed the soft closing trunk (cheap, easy fix), replaced the hood and trunk struts, got a Renntech Intercooler Pump and Renntech Heat exchanger upgrade that adds a 2nd heat exchanger for the intercooler, and finally, I got myself some lowering links.

I have also gotten a couple of things that I have not installed as Renntech rear adjustable bushings, front camber bolts, BMC Filters, Exterior LED lighting upgrades, a driver mirror, and new engine mounts.

Other than fixing my current issues, I plan to do some more maintenance like a trans service, tune the car, get custom downpipes for it and repaint the front bumper, fender, and hood that have quite some chips from years of service. After that, I think that is going to be it.

So far, so good.

Here are a couple of pictures of my car. I have another post called "New S600 Owner" in case you want to check out how she looked when I got it, not much different if I am being honest.

So...

an update since my last post on this thread.

The car got new spark plugs, which solved a misfire issue I had under heavy load, turns out the spark plugs were original, the gap was insane, no surprise it was giving me issues. After I did that I got a Renntech ECU Tune and a TCU Tune, turning the car from a quick car to properly fast, it is so much fun. 60-130 is on the high 9-second range.

Sadly this newfound power finished killing off my engine mounts and trans mounts, also while doing the TCU Tune I discovered that the Trans Connector was leaking, no biggie easy fix.

I got new mounts, new trans mounts, the trans connector and did some transmission maintenance, fluid, and filter. Just an FYI to do the engine mounts the engine DOES NOT NEED TO BE DROPPED, I had a hard time finding an answer to this on the forums but here it is in case you need to do them. The subframe has to be dropped a little bit, the steering shaft needs to get disconnected and the shocks have to be separated from the lower control arm, but once you do there is all kind of spaces, doing all of this took 2.5 hrs.

So after this, I took the car on a ton of long trips. The car developed a slight vibration at speed, the kind of things that just the driver notices and I also got my first red ABC light, this was due to low system pressure. Some time ago I saw some seeping in what I thought was a power steering line, turns out it was one of the ABC lines that went from the pump to the valve block that sits under the front passenger seat, where the pulsation dampener is, at this point, it had turned more into a leak, this line and 3 more were seeping. So I ordered all 4 lines. During the inspection for the lines, I found that the Front Left wheel bearing was a bit loose and that the Front Right Lower Control Arm was shot. Finally, an ABS/ESP/ETC... the light came on due to a Front Left wheel speed sensor failure.

So I got all the parts I needed and front camber bolts (since my car is lowered) and got it all done. To reach the lines the process was the same as with the engine mounts. After everything was said and done we did the rodeo and alignment and the car is all good now.

Next, I want to get the cosmetics sorted out. I also want to replace the PSE pump, it works fine but it's definitely slow, and fix my trunk hydraulic arm since it has some seeping as well.

That is all for now.
