Fuse 78 blows- Alarm Horn, EIS, ME-SFI
Accidental Mercedes owner here. We have a gorgeous 2005 S500 in great condition, 54,000 miles and has never seen winter. Garage kept its entire life.
It's been on a trickle charger and ran when parked. The battery is good but when I went to wake it up (after 5 months), it will not come to life at all. It does not recognize the key.
Fuse #78 in the passenger door fuse panel pops when you put it in.
Am I correct that the W220 does not have a steering lock? The wheel is unlocked. The remotes have new batteries (immaterial, since the module which recognizes it has no power when the fuse is blown).
I have no ideas.
Is there a common problem with these cars which can be checked out? I cannot get it out of gear and it's hemmed into our garage on both sides.
I am not afraid to work on things, but I am afraid of this car. Are there other fuses or items I can unplug to try and isolate the thing which is the root issue?
Any help is appreciated.
all used ones are just as old
or you just disconnect it

With the battery disconnected, I removed the Alarm siren, mummified the plug in tape, secured it in place.
I replaced the 7.5 amp fuse (#78) and Viola! It starts and runs normally now. I don't see a need for an alarm siren anyhow.
Much appreciated.
