Issue with Radio
Hi there:
I just replaced my battery on my 2001 S430 last week at the Mercedes dealership I work at and I have had a very peculiar issue with my radio after replacing the battery. After replacing the battery, my radio will not tune. It comes up 00.0 on the dial and will not allow me to change AM/FM stations. Before replacing the battery, the radio worked perfectly normal and had preset stations. Now it won't even tune to a radio station. I am wondering if perhaps the dealership tech forgot to set the code for the radio and now I can't tune the radio. Is there a way to reset the radio again so I can enter the radio code? Any ideas of what I could do to make the radio work again?
Thanks:
Mike

I have never seen anything that stated or implied that the factory radio in a W220 required a security code.
I have also never heard of anyone spiking a W220 radio by changing the battery, but I suppose that anything is possible.
There is an "unlisted" 10-Amp fuse on the back of the factory COMAND unit on all of my cars, but I have no idea what it protects.

I would be shocked if it did NOT have a code. I had a 2001 and 2002 SLK 320 and the head units failed repeated under warranty--and they all had a code card. I learned how to pop them out myself with a thin knife blade that mimicked M-B's "special" tool. Yours may WELL be in the manual pack, if you have one. BTW, the head unit in our '03 S500 (the only M-B we still have) failed so completely we had it replaced with an Alpine head unit. The head unit on our 2003 ML600 also failed as well. In fact, the head unit in every Mercedes failed sooner or later.
