i get a knocking sound when driving at low speeds from the front passenger suspension, typically when going over uneven roads. When i push down on the suspension when its parked i can also hear a sound. Any ideas on what this could be?

Lower ball joint. It's a common failure. If you replace one side, you may as well do both because you will need an alignment afterwards.
