Question 2002 w220 acceleration delay and shifter issues

hello mb lovers,

today I just found out that my 2002 w220 has some issues that i m not familiar with
- start accelerating, goes slow (5-10 mph like limp mode) for like 10 - 15 feet, and after the speed goes up normally
- I stop the car, trying to shift from D to P buuuut the car gets stuck in N. I turn off the engine, start the engine again in N, and will shift normally in P.

No check engine light
185000 miles

Any advice?
Merry Christmas!

If you have DAS or a Mercedes specific scan tool, check the ESM (shifter module) for a P1856 code. The optical pickups in the module have a solder issue and the shifter is not able to report its position. Common issue on W220/R230. Usually this is a momentary loss of position, but the code is set and will keep the car in limp mode until a key cycle. Could be something else, but this is the most likely.
