Drive Authorization System Bypass.

Its a 7.5 amp fuse. I didnt have a 7.5 so i replaced it with either the 15 or a 10, i cant remember. I forgot ehich fuse it is but there are only 9 fuses. Wont take long to check them all
I had the same thing happen to me. I almost sent my eis out for repairs. Took me weeks to find out it was just a fuse in a hidden fuse box. Hope this helps
I had an issue on my 2004 S500 where the key would not turn in the EIS when it was below a certain temp and the start button did not respond.
I ended up taking it to some idiot who was Mercedes accredited to repair it. They diagnosed a faulty EIS and said they would get a second hand one, clone it and code it to my car. They stuffed this up so badly that they added 250 000 miles extra onto my odometer, damaged the SRS coding and cracked the outer case of my instrument cluster when they tried to remove it in an attempt to re-code it.
No one was able to resolve this for me and I have been to about 8 different garages...all claiming to be Mercedes experts. Mercedes are happy to help, offering to charge me $4200 for a new EIS, new key, new instrument cluster and their labour.
If you love your car and it is a faulty EIS module, just go to the dealer and pay the $1000 for a brand new one that will last another 20 years...I deeply, DEEPLY regret not doing this on my car

PS: You cannot bypass the EIS/Drive Authorization System. It is composed of 4 different things that talk to each other (EIS, Key, Engine ECU and Gearbox ECU)

The facelift W220 stores the mileage in the instrument cluster and the EIS. If the OPs car has 100 000 miles on the instrument cluster and the EIS he buys online has 200 000 miles on it, this will overwrite the cluster and the car will now have a permanent 200 000 miles on it
.There are apparently "gurus" out there that are able to hack the EIS by breaking the security on it, then copy across all the programming etc...but this requires de soldering the chip off the EIS which is very risky (I have yet to find one of these people...in South Africa anyway)...
Bear in mind just because one sees something as worthless, does not mean everyone else does
the resale value doesn’t matter on a car you are driving .i haven’t seen anyone talk about resale value on a w220 in years because they are all worthless besides the s65 amg and the w220 is one of the cheapest used Mercedes you can buy.
even the v12 s600 are under $8000. Plus the difference between $4000 and $7500 is nothing those are both cheap used cars , and If that means something to you then you are broke and should be finding the cheapest way to get the car running.
Plus even if you are concerned about resale value on a w220 (what a joke ) any buyer would see from the service records that you car jumped from 100,000 miles to 300,000 miles and would see from the receipts it’s due to a parts swap
. These cars cost less than a used Hyundai .The fact is nobody is taking their w220 for dealer service any more and most dealerships will not even work on these cars, specifically because they are worthless and the owners of a cheap w220 car cannot handle the 4 figure repair bills typical of Mercedes dealers, so they either decline the repairs or abandon the car at the dealership , never paying the bill

OP, to sum up...you cannot bypass the EIS or Drive Authorization System...its an integral system.
If you don't care about your car, get the 4 components that were listed above, have someone code it to your car and take your chances.
If you care about your car and value it, which clearly seems rare these days, then take it to Mercedes and have a new EIS fitted.

You know, a funny thing about my eis. When I tried to learn how to reprogram keys for my s600, I accidentally deleted the vin inside my eis. Car still operates just fine. The missing vin triggered the srs light and that's it. I have no clue how I deleted it. I bought a cgdi mercedes key programmer and the English in the thing was terrible. It took me two weeks to figure out you had to pull a password off of the eis in order to program anything. In the end I was only able to program a key that could start the car and nothing else. What use is a key that can start the car but can't get in the car? I've thought about buying the autel key programmer but that thing is like 4k-4.5k. A little too expensive if your only working on one car. I have the autel ms906ts. I wish I had bought the $4000 unit instead. The main difference between a 2k unit and a 4k unit is the ability to write the vin to control modules. I wish I had know that when I made my purchase, but yeah, check the fuse behind the passenger side door again.
Before you feel the need to correct me again, understand that there are people that care about things working perfectly on their car, that don't want weird lights and non functioning systems. If you don't, good for you, if the OP does not, good for him...but I am just providing the information to do the job correctly!
