S430 Trunk Limiter Issues

After so much digging I cannot find a solution to my trunk issues and even the dealer cannot figure it out. When I turn on the trunk limiter in the convenience settings, the trunk only opens about halfway. I have seen many people say that you can reset the limiter by putting the key in pos 2 and holding the trunk release button in for 10 seconds to reset the limiter. That process does not do anything in my vehicle. The trunk pump also runs for 5+ seconds after the soft close pull it closed so something seems out of sync. The dealer replaced the trunk limiter switch which didn't solve any problems and gave me my $ back because they couldn't figure it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I can share any other information if needed.
Thanks!

I don't fully understand your problem or problems.
The trunk lid opening limiter switch is intended to allow auto-opening in areas with low overhead clearance. The amount of opening is adjustable.

Are you saying that you can't turn the opening limit off? Or that you can't adjust the limit to be higher, but still not fully open?

Five seconds of run-on seems excessive, but my system runs-on for three or four seconds upon closing. I think that one possible cause is air leakage in the PSE locking system. I think that it may be that the hydraulic system operates until the pneumatic system can lock the latch.

Hey Wally,

The issue is adjusting the height at which it opens when the limiter is "ON". Nobody can seem to figure out how to adjust it. If I turn off the limiter function, the trunk slams open even with brand new struts. Ideally, I would like to be able to turn the limiter on and adjust the height to a little less than fully open. It used to work but after a dead battery it went haywire!

And, I do have a sneaky suspicion that I have a PSE leak in the trunk or maybe a door lock. That is on my list to dig into!

The limit may not be adjustable.

Limiting opening height

The trunk lid opening height can be limited when transporting goods on a roof rack (e.g. presence of an MB sport luggage container).

When activated, the trunk lid opens to approximately the height of the roof edge.

You can activate the limiting opening height of trunk lid using the control system or menu in instrument cluster.

Nomalizing opening height

In case trunk fails to open to its full height, normalization of opening height is necessary.

Trunk opening has a reset procedure using the switch on the driver's door panel. Instead of listening for the click sound, continue to hold the switch for an additional 15 seconds. Do this with the trunk in the fully opened position, and then again from the closed position. Sometimes it is necessary to go through two full open/close cycles to get the trunk opening height to be reset correctly.

Alternatively, trunk lid opening height can be normalized using appropriate adaptation functionality under PSE module in DAS.
