Audi A4 and a Mercedes-Benz S430
New to the S430
Hi,
This weekend I finally sold my 190E 2.6. The next day, (Sunday) we went to AutoHaus Los Gatos to find me a new car. I test drive a 97 540i and it felt strange. I also test drove a 99 C280 Kompressor Sport which I planned on buying. Then, I saw a 2000 S430 black/black. Inside, I found Russian money and a Russian tape. After having a few laughs, we decided to test drive the car for the hell of it. In the end of it all, we bought it for $31,000. It has 62500 miles and it beautiful. I am only 17 so this is a big leap forward. What I want to know is how dependable of cars the W220 is and also how good the drive train is as well as any potential problems common to the W220.
Thanks!
Mike

too many to list
i hoping that, that price is with taxes included coz then it sounds like a market price and compared to the 5 series beamer and the C class Benz u got a way better vehicle. Plus u forgot to mention wether its a long wheel base and options that came with the car. The drive train is dependable and doesnt give many problems but i hope u got some sort of warranty on major components. as for the dependability of the whole car overall its very good but the 2000 models had some kinks they worked out later in the 01-02-03-04 models but its nothing big...enjoy the ride iam only 21 i know how it feels i got mine brand new on my 19th bday so it was a blast....

i doubt that is with taxes. he did get a good deal though because alot of people would still pay almost 40k for the car, even if it is a S430. And here in the states all W220 are long wheelbase. I think one of the problems you will have to watch out for is the airmatic, I beleive it is common for 00 models to fail at some point.

Yup... Airmatic pump will fail eventually (usually happens in 40k-70k range).
Also IC (instrument cluster) panel is a weak spot and many prior to MY03 W220 cars need to get IC replaced (it's will cost almost $1500 in MB stealership).
I would stronlgy recommend to buy extended warranty ASAP!
I had air pump and IC replaced under warranty (which would cost me about $3k) but got extended warranty from warrantydirect.com anyways.
Post some pics.
Good luck!
