Updated (2025) Strutmasters Conversion - 2004 S600

It’s time for an updated thread on coilover conversions, specifically Strutmasters.

Firstly I have a 2004 S600 TT. It was gifted to me by the original owner, who has poured tens of thousands into ABC repairs in his time of ownership . I am a qualified Mechanic and since taking possession of the vehicle have put a serious amount of time into remedying poor previous repairs and trying to perfect the ABC system in this car so as to have a reliable suspension system. After hours and hours of labour and research, I have decided that in order to get the best out of this vehicle, I would remove the problematic cancer that is ABC and convert the vehicle to the Strutmasters system.

I have spent 3 years researching back and forth Mercedes forums trying to identify the best coil over conversion option, initially purchasing Ceika Coilovers and later giving them away to a friend as I was in denial and wanted to try and save the ABC system. However after spending so much time and effort trying to get the ABC system in perfect shape, I realised it is time to start enjoying the car without the headache of worrying what will go wrong next with the suspension.

So, after many emails to Strutmasters outlining my concerns about their conversion kit, particularly the higher ride height that many customers have complained about, Strutmasters managed to allay my concerns explaining that their kit has been redeveloped. I subsequently purchased their full kit including the light out module and imported it to New Zealand. The kit arrived within two weeks and Strutmasters handled all shipping arrangements, including taxes and duties. So far I am very impressed with their service.

In this thread I intend to provide a detailed outline of installation of the Strutmasters coil-overs in my S600 and provide photos of installation. I will also provide a detailed outline of decommissioning the ABC system and how I re-route the ABC lines as per pmercury’s earlier posts.

In the meantime if you have converted to Strutmasters I ask that you post photos of your S-Class to this thread and share your experiences. I will keep in touch over the coming weeks and welcome any feedback or requests for advice.

Did you install swaybars? Abc suspension eliminated the need for swaybars. I don't think anyone makes them for our cars. The car won't handle as well without swaybars. What swaybars did you use and how did you mount them? I'm curious about how you mounted them since there's no mounting points on the car.

How much weight did you save by converting to coilovers?

There are sway bars for the w215. Maybe would work with the w220?

Oh wow! That company sells a whole kit with the pump, swaybars, front lca, and everything for $3500. The coilovers look way better than the strutmasters. I might eventually get it. I wonder how much weight it would shave off the car? Our cars are way too heavy. We need over 1000whp to get the car to do 10 seconds.
