Can this part be removed?

Hi guys, sorry for the very newbie question here.

I've just bought an 01 S430, and when I went to do the oil change I found the filter in such an awful state that part of it basically disintegrated the second i pulled it and has landed down the tube that the filter sits in. I've removed top part of said tube, that is attached to the oil fikter, my question is, how difficult is it to remove the next part? And is there anything I should be aware of? I can't seem to find a video on it.

Any help at all is very appreciated, thanks in advance.

It is a "job"....you need to move coolant hoses and what not. You will also want to replace the gaskets behind it (this is normal maintainance anyway) and if it has the spring loaded backwards turning plastic cap...that should be replaced as well. None of this is rocket sciene but it is a bunch of disassembly and reassembly.

Use this link to the manual: https://charm.li/Mercedes%20Benz/200...d%20Diagnosis/

Look under Engine, cooling and exhaust > Engine > Engine lubrication. Hopefully has the info you need.

Can you use a flexible grab tool to get the filter material?

I never worked on the M113 engine so not 100% sure but it looks like the oil filter housing and oil cooler can be removed. After that the oil filter housing is bolted to the timing cover. So that hole you are seeing in the photo above is the timing cover.

If that answers your question?
