2000 S430 Won't Manual Shift (sometimes)

I went down the road yesterday and for some reason decided to downshift, but it wouldn't do it. I also tried to switch from sport (S) to wet (W) and it wouldn't change that setting either.

I pulled over and restarted the car and it worked fine.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

Mike

I've never had THIS problem, but I have certainly used your method of repair, many times on Command center failures. It seems to be a fairly common method to "fix" electrical/computer issues on the S-Class even suggested by the dealers service dept. This is the same car manufacturer that told me that the malfunction message on the instrument panel is due to sunlight heating the steering column (while parked). I'm beginning to think Mercedes needs a fault reset button on the dash! Good luck with your problem.
