Availability in the US?
This is a 2007 model - any info on when the car can be ordered from a dealer in the US? Do you think demand is high enough to generate waiting lists?
Also, from the Automobile article, it mentions instead of the S55, there will be a 6.3 liter - an S63 or S65 I guess - any idea on when that will be out?

As with any new product, there will probably be an initial period of high demand where waiting list will form and perhaps even selling over the MSRP. However, given the polarized opinions the interior and exterior designs have generated based on the photos, not sure if the demand will be high enough until the consumers are able to see and touch the car in person.
I had considered as a replacement for my '04 A8L (lease up 3/07) but seeing the pictures have left me cold. I'll hold my final judgement until I've seen the car in the flesh but the probability that I'll order an S8 with the rumored V10 engine is has increased since seeing the pictures.
As for the AMG version, not sure when that will be but no doubt Mercedes-Benz will waste little time in capitalizing on the brand equity with the new W221 as quickly as possible. :v

My rumor mill tells me that the V10 from the Gallardo is going in the RS6 and the RS8 will have the turbocharged W12 from the Continental GT, which is basically the same engine that the A8L W12 has now sans the turbos. This engine is good for 550-600hp which should be more than enough to compete with the S63. Supposedly there will be no regular "S8," and just a one year run on the RS8.
But then again, I could be wrong...

i called my dealer about 2 months ago to change my deposit from the CLS55 i had ordered to the new CLXX AMG and he told me that i was already 4-5 on the waiting list and that the new S-class 4matic already has 15 on the waiting list. if you want one you better call your dealer now.

I love when new cars come out. They get a waiting list a mile long of people who bought the car sight unseen, and I buy them off of eBay a month later for 5% below MSRP with 200 miles on the clock.
