S350 is sold in the US go to mbusa.com, from what I read S350 will be introduced along with the other cars but S500 will be introduced first, there will also be a CDI version of the car introduced here.

German Car Forums has an article which states the base price of the S500 will be 95,236 euros. I can't tell if that includes some type of european tax. However that translates to about $115,000, which seems very high considering MB has so many options which are not included in the base price of the cars.

W211 & Q7
IMO, I think that Mercedes, at the end or their run on the W220 decided to maximize their financial return by doing whatever they could to sell the remaining years production of the current S-class. Whether it is the introduction of a 6 cylinder, free 4matic an AMG sport package, the W220 was at the end of it's lifespan. Going forward, typically vehicle manufacturers initially offer the higher priced and optioned versions of their newest models. The S350 (W221) doesn't fit this theory for the US market, especailly if the 400CDI diesel makes an appearance in the states.

I agree that the S350 will be imported to the US as a SWB model, but not until after at least a few years have passed. I really, really hope they bring the SWB models of the other engine models to the US. Other than the Japanese that don't even have two wheelbase versions, they're the only make that doesn't bring both to the US. I'd still rather a SWB than a LWB...
Anyway, in addition to what others have already mentioned, including S500 as the lowest V8, I've heard of a hybrid S-class in the works. I can't remember if it was planned as gas-hybrid only, or if a diesel-hybrid was being planned as well. Perhaps someone can refresh my memory.

I would buy a short wheel base S Class in a heart beat. The E class and CLS Class are too small, and the LWB S Class is too long. The SWB is just right! Why MBUSA thinks there is no market for this size car demonstrates they are incompetent.

100K for and S500 not happening.
From what I heard about pricing I shant buy a new S-class again.
The current S-Class had the worst reliability ratings and for me anyway
the car never blew cold ac and I had it in the shop constantly with other problems.
Other friends had S-Classes as well and had similar problems.
MB you lost me your way out of line this time.
I shall look at the Maserati or new Flying Spur.
Sorry MBers but I am disgusted with Mercedes actions.

I drove the A8L W12 for the first time on Sunday. I am shocked by this car, it's much faster, much more refined, and handles way way better than I expected. The full leather interior also makes the regular A8 look like you're sitting on a milk crate. Definately put it on your list to check out. I personally like the looks over the quadroporky as well -- it looks like it eats small children.

New Engines
In the W221 I read somewhere that there will also be a new 4.7 ltr V-8 with 325 hp as well as the 5.5 and possibility the 3.5 six. Has anyone else heard or have any information on the smaller eight?

Base Price
I hope the base price for the S 500 is not over 100,000 or even 90, 000. If it is I may have to go with the 750 BMW. They both basically have the same interior and BMW gives you more car for the money. The S 500 once you get all the options you want the price may increase from 10,000 to 20,000. That is just too much for me.

$115k?? If thats what they will end up costing then there will be crapload of them sitting on the dealers lots.
My dealer said it dcome in around 90k ( base)... Which is still friggin high compared the to the 750li which has all the toys for 90K.
I doubt the new S will set the world on fire especially for that kind of money.
To many other automakers doing it better and cheaper.... but as usual MB will sell a bunch of them... Ill probably be a lemming to, that damn Star gets me everytime
