If I am not mistaken this has been available in the past, but it has been many years ago.

Not That Long Ago

I think it's been available all along. Believe I read the Bill Gates of Microsoft is a an owner. This kind of thing is not made public for obvious reasons. The past Chairman of Daimler-Benz literally had his stolen out from under him.

Well, I found going to the dealerships and asking about this product is an entirely fruitless endeavor.

You have to

show 'em the money. I'll bet you can get one if you're really a customer. I heard the one stolen from the ex-CEO cost $1 million.

The B4 Armor version is a 75k option. I don't know about the B6, but that's crazy overkill. And I'll bet I can't get a dealership in Phoenix to give a customer the time of day, unless they're overweight and middle aged like the sales people.

Why I will never buy another Mercedes

While this may be one of the only factory options, it's definately not the only option out there. In fact, you can buy the Level 3 (b4) suburbans for around the price of a regular S500.

btw: someone from MB USA called me the other day. For anyone who is interested, in the US the only option at the moment is to buy these preowned -- if you can find one. They're still researching whether or not there will be the demand for the 2007 model. It looks like they will be dropped all together in the US market, so if you want one, you'll have to buy it overseas and have it imported.

The guard adds a great deal of weight I think. It's stupid to buy one if you don't need it. They get the job done though, I think I read that the B6s are explosion proof.
