During shipping a lot of the time they don't have the star attached... if you notice the protective covering covers the entire hood including the hole for the star....

The new pics I am going to post shows the car detailed and the star installed.

The thing I found odd though, the base of the star does not include the laurel wreath or "mercedes benz"... just smooth.

The reason the base of the satr no longer has the laurel is beause they put the star on the top of the grill again. In the old days the star with the laurel were on the top of the grill and the base of the star was clean.

Trunk Fin

Are they really serious....

I cannot believe they would have the satellite antenna stuck on the trunk. My 2006 has a nice little aero designed cover which is not too bad, but this was an add-on to the older design. In this new design are they telling us they could not integrate the antenna into the roof fin or hidden it in someway. here is my 2006 and you can see the antenna does not detract that much from the lines of the trunk lid.

That and the fender flares cause me great pain...

Hey, a general question to anyone who has seen this car in person. Big picture question. Is the new S more conservative/stodgy looking than our last one. I have not seen it but in pictures it looks like it's going back to the "old man" look.

The W126 was the last S-Class to use the laurel inset into the grille.

I would argue, that considering the advances in technology, and other car makes, (such as Toyota's Lexus) that the interior of the new S is a HUGE step backwards from the 80's model in this pic. I mean, I almost like the older S better...

The interior of this new S is about as exciting as a Lincoln Towncar..

I would agree Sam...I was ready to post a picture of my W220 and indicate it looked better than the W221, but also think the W126 is better looking. Black or charcoal is not the best color to display an interior in pictures so maybe it will be better in real life.

I accidentally deleted my message.
But it is quoted, I suppose.

The S-Class has to be the best in the world. It needs to set the pace for others to follow. In styling, safety, and technology.
Whether or not it will achieve this, is speculative.

Never been in one. Never driven one. Never seen one in person. If I did, I'd make a video clip. I can't really pass judgment without being there in person.

Jack, I agree black hurts the photographic aspect, but I sat in one at Scottsdale's Schumacher... it really was "underwhelming" to borrow from a fellow on looker.

I understand that the tech end of the car is industry leading, but the Germans need to hire out less deign to Americans.. this has American design written all over it.

Hope the dealer can still install the Sirrus so the owner can retro. a antenna that does'nt look so Star Trek! That's what I did in my 2004, the 2006 looks fine. How can Audi get it so right and MB screw up the line of the car with that thing? Has anyone seen how they mount it on the car? i.e. drill through the trunk or glue?

The SIRIUS antenna mounted on the trunk is an eyesore..but apparently it supposed to work better in that location because it uses the trunk as a minidish..

In the new R and the ML they integrated the satellite antenna into the rear roof wind deflector and it is not visible at all. Their is no reason for not taking this antenna into account in the design phase and find a way to hide it.

If the SIRIUS install is anything like the new R or ML...it must be ordered with the car and cannot be installed by the dealer.

I saw one in pewter silver and was hoping the the dark colors as everyone had said looked better. After seeing it in black, I am truly disappointed. The car looks bloated in every color. I was going to replace my wife's LS430 with this car but I think I will not. The car is a big disappointment and has me thinking that the replacement will be the new LS460---- at least the pre release photos show a car with some styling. I really wanted to get her back in a Benz but right now it is out of the question. There are other options that are a hell of a lot more tempting.

I'm reserving my final judgement for when I see this car in AMG form with nice wheels, a nice body kit, and some interior upgrades.

the V221 interior is leaps and bounds above the current V220.

Actually, the rear section of the roof is a composite/plastic of sort... I don't know exactly. The SDAR antenna if installed is mounted to a tray beneath this rear section along with tele aid and navi. If it is not factory installed, you would have to remove the headliner to attempt to install the factory antenna.

The MOST accesory installs on the 164/251 can be a little involved. Depending on the factory configuration, you might have to remove a couple seats, the carpet, fiberglass floor covering, and other misc. items just to install a phone/navi.

On the 215 chassis and the 209 Cab., the rear decklid is composite and the sdar antenna is hidden beneath the trunk panelling. Makes you wonder why they don't do them all that way... but I'm sure an engineer somewhere has a reason.

The jury is still out with this S owner. The V221 interior pictures do not impress me and first hand reports of people who have sat in the V221 are not very encouraging. I prefer the softer look of gathered leather and from what I see in the pictures the leather seems to be firm and stretched.

the S in the pictures do not have the premium leather option.
